Who the hell are you people?
We are animation and design house Sixty40 we are teaming up with the crew at the UTS: Sydney International Animation Festival to create this award. It's to recognise and encourage good animation by good animators.
What duration should my animation be?
Anywhere between 40 – 60 secs. Too short? Keep the story and action really focused. Too long? Have a really slow title and long credits!
What are the features that my film must have to be eligible?
Mainly, it's got to be a story around the theme of the secret. It needs to be called "The Secret" then you add a sub heading to give it your own twist. It's got to be animated, or at least have a significant animated component in it. It could be any type of animation: stop motion, 3d, 2d, motion graphics or something we haven't even thought of. You can't just film your dog though, no matter what it's doing. It's also got to use one of the Music tracks available on the website.
Where do I find the music track that I must choose from?
From our Resources page.
What is the prize?
$AUD999.99 plus a 2-month mentorship at Sixty40. If you don't want to do the mentorship that's fine but it'll be fun. If you don't want the money, bad luck, you're getting it. You can throw it away after if you want.
Do I still own the rights to my work?
Yes. You own the rights to all promotional and non-commercial purposes. You will need to obtain the publishing and recording rights to the music if you intend commercial use (i.e. to sell / licence it to someone else). Sixty40 will help get you in contact with the relevant peeps to organise this. Alternatively you can replace our music track with one of your own (that you have rights to) and do what you like with the animation. Sixty40 have nonexclusive rights to use your work as part of the Proto Ninja award for ever, including streaming it and use in promotional materials. Mainly so we can keep promoting the award and getting your work out there
Can I put live-action video in my animation?
Yes, but your finished film must first and foremost classify as animation. If in doubt, get in contact and we can argue with you about it for 2 seconds.
When can I submit my work?
Anytime after March 1st and before August 26th 2011

Due to popular demand, we extended the deadline to August 20th, 2010. Use the time wisely!
How do I submit my work?
Post with completed entry form to:
UTS: Sydney International Animation Festival
PO Box 123, Broadway NSW 2007

If I live outside Australia can I enter?
Sure, but if you win you will need to cover your own travel and living expenses to do the mentorship. Prize money is listed in Australian dollars.
When and how will I know if I am a finalist?
